Cave diving in the Yucatan is like travelling back in time. You may come across ancient Mayan relics, fossils, artifacts, or even animal and human bones. There are an estimated 8000 cenotes around Merida, with more being discovered all the time.

On July 24, 2024, Nathan & Kim Maker, from Oklahoma, had been boat-diving with a group off the coast of Texas when they were swept away by a storm current. They used their Shearwater Teric to navigate as they drifted out to sea, and survive the next 39 hours until finally rescued by the US Coast Guard.

Bruce Lee’s mastery is considered legendary. This cave's name came from the difficulty of getting into the water - You need to crawl on your belly through a restriction, in thirty centimeters of water, to reach an air dome where there is space and height to attach sidemount tanks, then try to swim (or reduce the amount of crawling) to the other side of the airdome to be able to descend into the cave.

A second dive turns out to be even more interesting! During my descent, I can observe objects everywhere, but to avoid the inevitable dust, I descend to the lowest level first and ascend slowly afterwards. And that's when I turn around, I discover cardboard boxes with explosives inside!
