CREATING SUPERIOR DIVE COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS. 

Since our beginning in 2004, Shearwater Research has been fueled by the passion and vision of advanced technical divers. Armed with the belief that divers need a simple, intuitive dive computer, the earliest focus was on creating powerful, simple, and reliable dive products — a design principle that still drives us today. 

2004

Shearwater is incorporated, with a focus on building powerful but simple-to-use computers for technical divers. The "wing" logo is originally imagined as a lightning bolt in a wave, to represent underwater electronics.

2006

Pursuit dive computer launches and wins best new rebreather accessory award. Dealer network originally developed to incorporate products into rebreathers.

2009

Shearwater becomes known for exceptional customer service. Predator dive computer launches industry first full-colour AMOLED display with Bluetooth technology.

2012

Petrel dive computer launches with a smaller form factor, longer battery life and increased dive log memory. Shipped first DiveCAN system for rebreathers.

2013

World’s first near eye remote display (NERD) introduced. DiveCAN rebreather controller system wins Scientific Research Development Award from the International System Safety Society. The Shearwater logo is updated with the wing inside a cyan circle.

2016

Perdix and Perdix AI dive computers launch with significantly reduced thickness and weight, improved colour display and 30% longer battery life. Perdix Ai is Shearwater’s first dive computer with wireless tank pressure monitoring.

2017

The Shearwater Cloud dive log software launches. NERD 2 released, adding a stand-alone model for open circuit diving with air integration.

2018

First watch-style dive computer debuts. The Teric wins Best Consumer Product Award and Shearwater makes the "Growth 500" list.

2020

Peregrine introduced as first "brick-style" dive computer with rechargeable battery for recreational divers. Shearwater relocates head office and manufacturing facility to current 35K sqft space in Richmond BC.

2022

Military dive computers supplied to the Royal Canadian Navy and officially approved for authorized use by US Navy.

2024

Tern and Tern TX watch-style dive computers are available for sale after being unveiled at DEMA 2023. The highly anticipated air-integrated Peregrine TX launches. Strategic collaboration with Avelo Labs is formed. The logo is refreshed to honour our 20th anniversary.
